NEWS: APC moves to reconcile Saraki -Tinubu

SOME leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are said to have begun moves to reconcile the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and the national leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, following the division between the duo on the choice of the party’s candidate for the Senate top seat.
Sources in the party told the Nigerian Tribune that the leaders were of the view that the crisis should not be allowed to fester, in view of its implications for the image of the party and the stability of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It was also leant that a line of communication had been opened for the two leaders, who are currently out of the country.
Tinubu was said to have jetted out of the country shortly after Saraki’s election last week Tuesday, while Saraki was said to have travelled at the weekend.
Sources said if the discussions went as expected, the duo might have a brief talk outside the nation’s shores before returning to the country.
Tinubu was said to have travelled to France to cool off after overseeing the failed bid to install Senator Ahmad Lawan as Senate President on June 9.
Sources also hinted that some of the lawmakers in Lawan’s camp had reached out to Saraki in a bid to ensure unity in the Senate.
But another source confirmed to the Nigerian Tribune that the core personalities in the contest, Senators Lawan, Barnabas Gemade and George Akume, had remained resolute in their demand for reparations on the outcome of the election.
It was learnt that the group had demanded the resignation of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, as the minimum standard acceptable.
The group was said to have insisted that while the election of the Senate President could be left as it was, Ekweremadu should be made to leave the seat, so that somebody from the APC could take over.
It was gathered that the group was still unhappy its members were unable to participate in the election on the Senate floor on June 9.
Regardless, governors of the party, under the aegis of Progressives Governors Forum, are billed to meet in Abuja today, to deliberate on the outcome of the National Assembly crisis.
The governors were said to have sent a last minute interventionist message to President Buhari late on June 8, ahead the June 9 meeting, but the emissary was unable to deliver the message because the president declared he was going to bed shortly after returning from his trip to Germany.
